Working It Out

by Barbara Dehn - 01st March 2008

One seasoned mom that I know was describing her hectic life to me the other day. She has three children, one of whom is a brand new six-week-old infant. Her other two children are three and five. She was alternately beaming because her dream of three healthy children has come true while explaining the chaos and craziness that is her life.

She says breastfeeding is going great and the baby is gaining, yet finding time to pump is out of the question. She loves the convenience of having one bottle of formula each day that someone else can feed the baby. She started this when the baby was three weeks old and she is happy with how it works out for her family. As we talked about pumping, she raised her eyebrows and her eyes widened. “Are you kidding me?” Followed by “When am I going to find the time to pump? Because, I’m not getting up any earlier and my day is just too jammed packed.”

Mornings especially are hectic, with never ending demands on her time and patience, and yet, she is beaming because she’s found the routines that work best for her entire family as well as her newborn. I’d like to hear more about other moms and what works when there is so much to juggle.
