All things being equal.....

All things being equal, everyone seems to agree that breast is best. But, as we well know, all things are not always equal. Take the cost of feeding babies.
Breastfeeding is free. Obviously. When it works well, it's fabulous. But, as Barb has noted numerous times with stories of her patients, breastfeeding doesn't come easily to everyone. And for those mothers there is a cost associated with it. It's the cost of stress which is not only harmful to the mother but to her baby as well, not to mention other family members.
Then there's formula. It's very hip to talk about how expensive it is in the hope that more mothers will feel pressure to breastfeed. The reality is formula doesn't have to be expensive. There are lots of ways to save on formula, or even get it for free if you just spend a few minutes on the Internet. Many of the manufacturers have websites that let new mothers sign up for free samples. Some even have savings club programs where you can get free coupons. Try Similac's Welcome Addition , or Enfamil's Family Beginnings , or Nestle's Very Best Baby .
There are baby clubs at grocery stores that give coupons or freebies if you buy a certain amount of baby products. Check with your pediatrician. Many give out free samples.
It's there for the asking. Come on, do a little research. It could really pay off.
