Helping parents nurture healthy babies

"Tis the season

"Tis the season to be harmonious.  So that's where I'm headed with today's blog.  Since I spend quite a bit of time on this blog lamenting the rigorous pressure from lactivists, today's blog is about what we have in common.

We both support increasing breastfeeding rates.  We both agree that breast is best.  We all agree there should be mandated, paid maternity leaves and leaves that should be guaranteed for longer than 12 weeks.  We all agree that workplaces should have to provide clean, private and nearby rooms for working mothers to pump.  I suspect we all agree that the IRS should consider breastfeeding a medical condition and thus provide deductions for pumps (whether rented or bought).  Lastly, we are in agreement that lactation consultants should be covered under insurance.

So there is much that we have in common.  My hope is that for the next year, we focus on joining forces in these areas to make real change come about.  Happy Holidays everyone!
