Helping parents nurture healthy babies

Haiti---A Formula to Help

Our hearts go out to the Haitian people whose lives have been destroyed by the devastating earthquake.  And for a week now, we've been inundated with pleas for help.  Americans are responding in true fashion.  But what kind of help is the best when it comes to feeding the babies down there? Wars have erupted on the micro-blog, Twitter, as to whether or not we should send formula to the earthquake-ravaged victims.  There are urgent calls for formula and urgent calls not to send it.

To be sure, there are a lot of babies who need to be fed.  And for those who have lost mothers and wet nurses, formula is a great solution.  BUT...if you're planning on donating supplies, please make it Ready-To-Feed formula, which needs no mixing.  It's water that's the big concern right now.  There are limited facilities in which they can boil water in Haiti, and bottled water supplies are catch as catch can.  So, go ahead and send formula but Ready-To-Feed is the only good solution.
