Helping parents nurture healthy babies

Lactation Consults over the Internet

Need help breastfeeding but can't find the time to get to a lactation consultant?  Well, you may not have to.  A Calirofnia woman has introduced the idea of lactation help via the Internet using video conferencing.   They actually use Skype, which is voice and video over the Internet.

The company, Milkalicious, offers help from a variety of board certified lactation consultants.    It's not free.  The cost is 45-dollars per hour.  But factor in you don't have to leave your house and the cost seems worth it, on the surface.  I say on the surface because I don't know any of these consultants.  You might want to get references.  But they are all certified and that stands for something.

There are a number of reasons women have trouble breastfeeding, among them, sore nipples, mastitis infections, lack of milk etc.

There are also a number of reasons women can't or choose not to breastfeed.  .  You have nothing to feel guilty about.  We're lucky to have a safe and nutritious alternative with formula.  The most improtant thing is to make the choice that works best for you and your family.  Psychological health is as important as nutritional health and if mom is in a good place (relaxed, not stressed etc) that will ultimately do more for the baby than any feelings of guilt.
