Helping parents nurture healthy babies

Put Your Feet Up

It’s that time of year again.  Study after study shows that moms,
especially new moms enjoy the holiday season less than the rest of the
family.  How can that be?  I’ll tell you.  Many moms work over-over-
time to get their home ready, gifts wrapped, cards mailed, appearances
at parties, school events videotaped, special foods prepared, while
still maintaining an over-loaded regular schedule.  It’s no wonder
that moms try to steal an extra 10 minutes at the end of the day to
sit down and wince because their backs are aching and yet they’re so
tired, but they still want to enjoy the magic of the lights or the
aroma of a pine wreath.
Here’s the secret:  slow down, put your feet up and do less.  In fact,
do a lot less.  Your family’s enjoyment of the holiday will be
enhanced if you’re more rested and less harried.  They would rather
have a happy mom, one who’s not so crazy, hyper-efficient busy
crossing off the items on her never-ending to do list, but one who
chooses one or two important and meaningful traditions and
concentrates on those.  So, if you have a new baby, this is even more
crucial, sit down, put your feet up and enjoy your family.
Happy Holidays.
