Making Time for Mommy
This website is devoted to Moms Feeding Freedom. As I think about that, it also means that we need other freedoms in our lives. How about the Freedom to Relax. The Freedom to just BE, instead of Do. I'm guilty of being the type of mom who makes lists and then gets enormous satisfaction in crossing off the tasks on my Never Ending To Do List. Guess what, there's very little satisfaction in doing those tasks, unless they have meaning. Don't get me wrong, I love folding clothes and blankies that are warm and fragrant, just from the dryer soft and that I know will envelope my family in a big, clean, fresh hug. But I also love making time for myself so that I can enjoy cooking and laundry, seeing in those tasks, the fabric of caring for my family. But if I'm not getting a little down time, then I'm cranky and irritable and frankly not at all happy about laundry.
My point is that we as moms and parents have to find little ways to Put our Oxygen Mask on First, so that we have the reserves and energy to devote to our families. It doesn't take much. For one friend, it's using a special scented soap to begin her day with a little pampering. Another has that 2nd cup of coffee as she surfs the net. Another makes time to exercise everyday. Sometimes saying yes to ourselves means that the family has to wait. After all, we're part of the family too, and when we're busy meeting everyone else's needs, there's one family member who gets overlooked, that's not fair. So, go ahead, be as nurturing and as nice to yourself as you are to the rest of the family.
