One Mom's Struggle
I just heard about a new mom who was told that if she breastfed, she wouldn’t be able to eat the foods that she loved and would have to eat healthier foods that she normally doesn't like.
Wow, I guess, I shouldn’t be shocked, after all these years. Let me just say for the record, that most moms can eat the foods they like, even if they’re picky eaters and not “perfectly perfect” and still make good and healthy breast milk for their babies.
You don’t have to eat a perfect diet.
I mean, it’s best not to eat a candy bar for breakfast washed down with a diet soda and then have a few cookies and ice cream for lunch, followed by fast food. But if this is similar to what you are eating, just make a few modifications: choose a granola bar for breakfast and have some drinkable yogurt. For lunch, have the cookies, but have a salad or sandwich first. And dinner, if all you want is fast food, then have it, make it a chicken sandwich, get the salad and try to have a milk shake or carton of milk or orange juice.
The point is to do the best you can and don’t beat yourself up. Now, if you really don’t want to breastfeed, for what ever reason, then there are safe and healthy formulas available so that your baby can grow and develop.
