Helping parents nurture healthy babies

A Noble Cause

We all know about breast milk banks in the U.S.  They provide a valuable service to thousands of women who need breast milk and can't produce enough on their own or who can't breast feed for medical reasons.  But here's another cause to think about this Memorial Day.  There's an organization called the International Breast Milk Project

which raises money and collects breast milk for babies around the world who need it.  According to the website, the organization's goals are:

  • Provide donor milk to infants affected by HIV/AIDS, malnourishment, disease, and poverty in Africa.
  • Provide donor milk to infants in need where local donor milk is not available.
  • Provide funds for milk banks and infrastructure to help increase local sustainability.
  • Raise awareness about the importance of donor milk.

The group also raises money for healthcare programs in impoverished countries.  Check out the website.  They do a great deal more than I've mentioned here.  It's a worthy cause on many levels.
