Food for Thought
Here's something interesting to consider. Children who eat fast food at least twice a week are more likely to develop asthma negating any benefit from having been breastfed. That's right, fast food consumption can reverse the good that breatfeeding can do. So says a new study published in the journal Clinical and Experimental Allergy. What does fast food have to do with asthma? The researchers say high salt levels and fat content in fast food may have something to do with it. The study was done by researchers in Canada. It was funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. Given the fact that we're a fast food nation, that could explain the soaring rates of asthma. These same researchers found that breastfeeding for a long enough period of time, reduces the chance of a child getting asthma. BUT, if you follow the logic far enough it stands to reason that asthma is not "caused" by not breastfeeding. Food for thought!
