Safe food and Formula
I recently received a question from a mom on the ask the RN section of this website. It kind of stopped me in my tracks, because it was about a 16-month-old child who had been treated repeatedly for worms. What a scenario, that thankfully most of us don’t have to deal with. Yet there are areas of the world where mothers must confront many serious challenges to keeping their babies and children healthy.
Clean water and clean food are 2 aspects of daily life that we take for granted, and yet many children are exposed not just to worms but to parasites and amoebas. We know that for the most part our tap water is safe and will not cause diarrhea and dehydration, and yet many mothers must walk great distances to obtain well water or river water that’s contain a multitude of hazards.
For mothers in other areas of the world, their options are limited and much is out of their control. This reminded me to be grateful for the resources I do have and not worry so much about the “little things”. I was looking at a glass of tap water today and reminding myself that it’s a great gift.
