Helping parents nurture healthy babies

It's About Time!

Congratulations to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, which became the latest state to sign legislation protecting a woman's right to breastfeed in public.  It only took 10 years to make this happen!  And the state now leaves the dubious club of having been one of 3 states without a law on the books ( West Virginia and North Dakota still don't).

The new law not only states that a woman can breastfeed in public without being considered "lewd, indecent or immoral," but it also prohibits harrassment of them by other people and organizations.  And importantly, companies or restaurants cannot make a nursing mother go somewhere "more private" based on a complaint from someone else.

Here's the kicker though; Sen. Susan Fargo, one of the lawmakers who has pushed for the bill form the start, said in a statement that the law protects publically nursing mothers from having to register as sex offenders!  Are you kidding me?  Was that really a consequence before the law?  If so, I'm disillusioned as to how sick things really were.  This law is a much-needed step forward.
