Helping parents nurture healthy babies

Eating in Shifts

How many times have you re-heated the same cup of tea or coffee because you were too busy to finish your drink before your child or new baby needed something?  How many moms have one bite and then look longingly at their meal while feeding someone else theirs?  I saw a new baby at a restaurant yesterday who was being held and fed by his mom as she tried valiantly to eat her breakfast. I've found that it's virtually impossible to enjoy a meal and feed another person, especially a baby, at the same time.  I just wanted to go over and offer to feed the baby while she had a little time to enjoy her meal and not attempt it with a squirming baby. And there were people at the table, seemingly oblivious that she might appreciate a little help. They were taking their time, lingering over the coffee as she struggled.  Even if a mom isn't feeding a baby, if they're fussy, how about letting mom have the first opportunity to eat while someone else delays their own meal (gratification) and comforts, rocks or feeds the baby.  Shouldn't new moms get to eat first?  After all, we're wearing so many different hats that sometimes we get one or 2 bites if we're lucky and then we're on to the next pressing need.  Oh well, I'll eat later.....or maybe not.
