Easing Back to Work

As maternity leaves come to an end, moms who must return to work outside the home must try to prepare for every scenario and contingency. One of the most worrisome is how and what to feed their baby. Have they been pumping and storing milk? Is the baby taking a bottle? Are they using formula? When preparing to return to work there’s no shortage of advice, both unsolicited and asked for. Often moms turn to seasoned moms for the tried and true, often it’s a lactation consultant, or a pediatrician.
As moms return to work, I’ve found a few things to be true. First, each mom and baby pair is unique. Some babies are flexible and some like their very own routines. You don’t dare alter them or there will be ear deafening consequences, which also break your heart. What’s a mom to do? Try to figure out what your work routine will be, then try to ease into it about 2 weeks before you return. Try not to alter what or how you feed the baby all at once. Work on changing one feeding every 3 -4 days. If you plan to continue to breastfeed, try to keep the first one morning, the first one when you return from work, and the last before bed. Good luck
